According to Danny Yatim , Media Communications Adviser , HIV Cooperation Program for Indonesia , Australian AID , breast feeding mothers breastfeeding their babies with HIV is still a matter of controversy .
There's the media that prohibit , for reasons breast milk contains the virus . But others suggest it, because breast milk has complete nutrition needed to help improve the baby's immunity and infant growth and development .

With this program , pregnant women will be given information and exposure prevention of HIV from mother to child .

Tak terkecuali bagi ibu dengan HIV.Menurut Danny Yatim, Media Communications Adviser, HIV Cooperation Program for Indonesia, Australian AID, pemberian ASI dari ibu menyusui dengan HIV kepada bayinya masih menjadi kontroversi.
Ada kalangan media yang melarang, dengan alasan ASI mengandung virus. Tetapi ada pula yang menganjurkannya, karena ASI memiliki nutrisi lengkap yang dibutuhkan bayi untuk membantu meningkatkan kekebalan tubuh dan tumbuh kembang bayi.
"Lebih baik memberikan ASI kepada anaknya, karena banyak sekali nutrisi yang baik bagi anak," kata Danny, Sabtu (6/4/2013), di Jakarta.
Dalam kesempatan yang sama, Andika Wirawan (Iwan), Relawan HIV - AIDS mengatakan jika seorang perempuan mengetahui bahwa ia memiliki HIV, maka ia dapat mengikuti program Preventing Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT).
Dengan program ini, ibu hamil akan diberikan informasi dan pencegahan terpaparnya HIV dari ibu ke anak.
Di sisi lain, rekomendasi WHO dan UNICEF tahun 2010 menganjurkan ibu dengan HIV yang berencana atau di awal kehamilan untuk mengikuti PMTCT. Setelah ia melahirkan, ia diperbolehkan memberikan ASI kepada bayinya dengan cara eksklusif dan ia dilindungi dengan pemberian ARV selama jangka waktu menyusui.
Dengan pemberian ASI, berat badan anak dapat naik sekitar enam sampai 10 kali lipat.
